The celebrations in honor of San Lorenzo, patron saint of Montedinove, occur every year on August 10th.
On this day of celebration, in addition to the religious rites that are celebrated in the Church dedicated to the Saint, in Piazza Cino Del Duca there are food and wine tastings with the support of local associations, performances by local folk groups or concerts in the church.
THE HISTORY OF SAN LORENZO
Lawrence was one of the seven deacons of Rome, the city where he was martyred in 258 during the Christian persecution wanted by the emperor Valerian.
In August 258, in fact, Valerian had issued an edict that provided that all bishops, presbyters and deacons were to be put to death.
According to tradition, the Saint was made to lie on a grill, burned on hot coals at the age of only 33 (for this reason the Saint is also known as Lorenzo della Graticola).
From that moment on, the night of San Lorenzo has been associated with the phenomenon of shooting stars, which recall the coals on which the saint was killed.
According to others, however, the shooting stars represent the tears shed by the martyr during the tragic event.
