Luogo:Morro d'Alba (AN)

The Cantamaggio of Morro d’Alba is a celebration steeped in history and significance, an event that traces its roots back to the ancient rituals of the people, dedicated to the fertility of the land and the well-being of the community. Every third weekend of May, this festive ritual comes to life on the streets of the picturesque village, bringing with it the typical effervescence and joy of spring, along with the promise of a prosperous and abundant new agricultural season.

The “maggianti,” with their melodious voices accompanied by the harmony of the accordion, triangle, and harpsichord, fill the air with their traditional songs, intoning wishes of fertility and prosperity for the local inhabitants. The practice of singing is inherently linked to sharing and solidarity: the verses of the Cantamaggio encourage homeowners to offer food gifts to the singers, symbolizing the importance of nourishing and supporting the community as a whole.

To ensure the perpetuation of this ancient tradition, the Municipality of Morro d’Alba, in collaboration with the CTP (Centro Tradizioni Popolari) and the local ProLoco, dedicates itself with dedication and passion to organizing an authentic reenactment of the Cantamaggio every year on the third Sunday of May. It is a time of celebration and conviviality, enriched by the presence of gastronomic stalls offering the culinary delights typical of the region, including the renowned Lacrima wine, a pride of the territory.

We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating the deep roots of our culture and to contemplate the lush beauty of spring during this unforgettable festival in Morro d’Alba. It is a precious opportunity to rediscover and cherish the traditions passed down to us by our ancestors, while immersing ourselves in the vibrant and engaging atmosphere of this millenary event.

Useful information: the festival route culminates with the burning of the Maypole in the town square, a symbolic moment that represents the transition from winter to spring. You will find all the details regarding the events and activities scheduled in the official event flyer.

Additionally, during the Cantamaggio, interactive workshops dedicated to enhancing local traditions are planned, such as the handmade pasta workshop organized by Italea Marche and the Marche Saltarello workshop organized by Danzitondo. It will be a unique opportunity to learn and put into practice ancient artisanal and artistic techniques, thus preserving the cultural heritage of our land.

The activities planned during the festival include exciting concerts, exhibitions of local art and craftsmanship, performances by folk groups, the suggestive Maypole parade and much more. There will be moments of leisure and entertainment for all ages, ensuring an engaging and memorable experience for all participants.

We look forward to welcoming you in large numbers to experience the enchantment of Cantamaggio together and to share moments of joy, music and tradition in a unique and unforgettable atmosphere. Whether you are a local resident or a curious visitor, this festival is sure to capture your heart and leave you with precious memories to cherish forever.
