We are excited to share an initiative that celebrates the cultural, landscape and productive heritage of the Marche region and the importance of nurturing and maintaining strong territorial roots among the new generations.
Until August 10, a special group is visiting the region, on a journey to discover their family origins: twelve young people, between 18 and 30 years old, from Argentina and Canada, descendants of emigrants from the Marche region, are participating in the 2024 edition of the EDUCATIONAL TOUR: a summer school project envisaged by the Marche Region’s Annual Emigration Plan, promoted by the Regional Council of the Marche and the Marche in the World Association, with the aim of reconnecting young people with the land of their ancestors.
The 7 Canadians and 5 Argentines who arrived in the Marche region on July 28, are guests at the “L’Infinito” Campus in Recanati, where they follow an Italian language course, alternating lessons with tours, company visits and other authentic and exciting experiences.
During their stay, the students have the opportunity to explore the beauties of the Marche region, discovering not only the family roots, but also the traditions, history and culture of a region that has so much to offer, through landscape, architectural and production excellence.
To welcome the young guests with affection, under the guidance of Anna Poeti, Director of the Dante Alighieri School of Italian in Recanati, also institutional exponents of regional politics: Franco Nicoletti, President of the Council of Marche Abroad; Marina Marozzi, Director of the Executive Committee; Frida Paolella, Head of the Marche in the World.
We at Italea Marche met them on August 7 at the Museum of Marche Emigration.
Ledby Luigi Petruzzellis, Head of the Recanati Museum Network, we retraced with them the fundamental stages of the “journey of life”, getting excited between the stories of those who left in search of a new future and the search for relatives who emigrated at the turn of the last two centuries.
In the company of the folk group “Li Matti de Montecò“, witnesses of popular songs and dances, the children then danced and learned a few notes and words (categorically in dialect) of traditional Marche songs, in a pleasant interactive workshop.
This cultural exchange has made it possible to create a bridge between the past and the present, strengthening the relationship between generations and promoting a sense of belonging and identity.
This project continues to demonstrate its value in weaving lasting relationships between the Marche region and the communities of Marche in the world.
In experiences like these, the Marche is not a tourist destination to be discovered, but becomes a living and vibrant part of the personal history of each of these young people.
These occasions represent a virtuous model of how the rediscovery of roots can enrich and strengthen the cultural identity of everyone, creating a future in which the traditions and values of the past continue to live on through the generations.
