Santa Viviana represents the patronal feast for Rotella, therefore one of the most important that animate the territory.
It is a religious and civil event very heartfelt and rooted among the local population and its celebration has been going on for over a century, it takes place in the last week of August and in fact concludes the summer season.
The body of Santa Viviana was found in Rome in 1844 in the cemetery of Santa Ciriaca near the basilica of San Lorenzo al Verano, she was martyred between 361 and 363 during the persecutions of the emperor Flavius Claudius Julian.
Subsequently, Ariodante Ciccolini, a native of Rotella and resident in the capital, as sacristan of the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, managed to obtain the body of the saint from Cardinal Costantino Patrizi in 1850, which he placed in a reliquary made at his expense, so he decided to donate it to the church of Santa Maria delle Icone in Rotella.
The translation of the precious relic took place in 1851 and from that year the community solemnly celebrated its Saint, the participants by concession of Pope Pius IX also received the Plenary Indulgence; A few years later, during the cholera epidemic of 1855, the population wants him to have protected the country from contagion.
The rich religious program is flanked by a civil one where the polenta festival takes place in the large square in front of the town.
