Opera, poetry, contemporary music, dance and theatre. You will know that the Marche is a region with an intense and qualified cultural offering, very often hosted in magnificent natural settings or in splendid open-air theatres.
If you are passionate about opera or even just about music and culture, you should know that among the most eagerly awaited summer seasons are those of the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and the Macerata Opera Festival, of undisputed prestige and international appeal. The latter is the most important festival in the city, which brings the Opera to the Sferisterio between July and August, among large companies, renowned directors, exciting scenography and the magic of listening to opera on this precious stage: inaugurated in 1829 for the ball and bracelet game, is one of the most important opera spaces in Italy.
Having such a stage of excellence at home, at least one evening of opera cannot be missing from your journey to discover your roots.
Together we can consider an appointment even outside of the Festival proposals, choosing for example from performances based on works by great local artists such as the composer Rossini or the tenor Gigli, who was born in your own Region.
Perhaps you don’t know, in fact, that artistic itineraries / musical journeys are often also organised, starting from Recanati (MC), enriching the main program with interesting performances (words, music and images) which pay homage to one of the greatest local voices of the music, Beniamino Gigli and culminate in the Sferisterio arena with the long-awaited concert.
If we cannot find a place inside the arena, due to late reservations, dozens of other side events are held in the city during the same period as the Festival: concerts, readings, debates and cultural aperitifs.
Whatever the choice, our time in Macerata during these months will certainly be well spent!
The Macerata Opera Festival program normally includes:

How to get there
FROM THE NORTH AND THE SOUTH: traveling along the A14 motorway, exit at Macerata/Civitanova Marche. Continue following the signs for Macerata/Tolentino/Foligno; then take the SS77 highway and exit at the “Macerata Sud/Corridonia” junction and then follow the signs for Macerata Centro. FROM THE WEST: traveling along the SS77 towards Tolentino-Civitanova Marche, exit at the Macerata Ovest/Sforzacosta junction. Continue along the SP77/Via Nazionale – Strada Provinciale Della Val Di Chienti, following the signs for Macerata and then for Macerata Centro.
